Mews House Complete Redecoration

The Challenge

The compact proportions of a mews house mean every surface is highly visible and subject to close scrutiny. The original sash windows had deteriorated significantly, with cracked putty and peeling paint that required extensive remediation before repainting. Access to the upper facade was complicated by the narrow cobbled lane, ruling out conventional scaffolding.

Our Approach

We used a lightweight aluminium tower scaffold designed for restricted-access situations to reach the upper storey and roofline. Each sash window was carefully stripped back to sound paint, re-puttied where necessary, primed, and finished with three coats of exterior eggshell. The front door was taken back to bare timber, treated with a wood hardener, and built up with primer, undercoat, and two coats of high-gloss paint. Internally, every room was prepared and finished in complementary tones chosen by the client.

The Result

The mews house now stands out beautifully on its cobbled lane, with a gleaming front door and crisply painted windows framing the facade. Inside, the fresh palette has made the compact rooms feel significantly more spacious and light.
