Kitchens are hardworking spaces subject to steam, grease, heat fluctuations, and frequent cleaning. Our kitchen painting service uses tough, wipeable coatings that stand up to daily life without yellowing or deteriorating. Whether you want to repaint walls above a splashback, transform tired kitchen cabinets with a factory-quality spray finish, or redecorate a kitchen-diner from ceiling to skirting, we have the products and expertise to deliver a lasting result.
About Our Kitchens Service
The kitchen has become the heart of the modern London home, often serving as dining room, entertaining space, and family hub as well as a place for cooking. This multifunctional role means kitchen surfaces take more punishment than almost any other room. Steam from boiling pans, oil vapour from frying, temperature swings between a hot oven and an open window, and regular wiping down with cleaning products all conspire to break down ordinary emulsion paint within a year or two. Yellowing, peeling, and grease staining are the visible symptoms of a paint system that was not specified for the demands of a working kitchen. At Mayfair Painters, we select coatings specifically formulated for kitchen environments. Moisture-resistant, grease-repellent, and non-yellowing formulations keep your kitchen looking fresh far longer than standard paints. We also offer a complete kitchen cabinet painting service, transforming existing cabinetry with a hand-sprayed factory finish that avoids the cost and disruption of a full kitchen replacement. This service alone can save tens of thousands of pounds compared to installing new units.

Our Approach
Kitchen painting demands rigorous surface preparation, because grease and moisture residues prevent proper adhesion. We degrease all surfaces with sugar soap and specialist cleaners before sanding. For cabinet painting, doors and drawer fronts are removed, labelled, and transported to our spray facility where they are cleaned, sanded, primed, and sprayed in controlled conditions free from dust. This off-site process delivers a smoother, more durable finish than on-site spraying can achieve. Cabinet carcasses and fixed elements are masked and sprayed on site using portable spray booths with extraction. We use polyurethane-modified alkyd paints and two-pack lacquers that cure to a hard, wipeable surface resistant to steam, grease, and household chemicals. Walls and ceilings are finished with kitchen-specific emulsions that contain fungicidal additives to prevent mould growth in areas of high humidity. We discuss the interplay between wall colour, cabinet finish, and worktop material to ensure a cohesive result.
Materials & Brands
For kitchen cabinets, we use Renner two-pack polyurethane lacquer for the most durable factory-standard finish, with Benjamin Moore Advance as an excellent single-pack alternative. Wall coatings include Dulux Trade Kitchen & Bathroom emulsion and Little Greene Intelligent Kitchen Matt, both formulated with moisture and mould resistance. Zinsser BIN primer provides the adhesion base needed for previously lacquered or laminated surfaces. For a premium hand-painted cabinet finish, we recommend Mylands Marble Matt Emulsion or Farrow & Ball Modern Eggshell in combination with appropriate primers.
Property Considerations
In period properties, kitchens are often located in basement or lower-ground-floor rooms where ventilation may be limited and humidity levels higher. We assess these conditions and recommend enhanced preparation and moisture-resistant coatings accordingly. Open-plan kitchen-diners require careful consideration of how the kitchen palette flows into the living and dining areas. Modern apartments with handleless, high-gloss kitchens need specific primer and paint systems designed for non-porous surfaces. Where kitchen units are being resprayed rather than replaced, we can also update handles, hinges, and other hardware to complete the transformation.

Yes. Kitchen cabinet painting is one of our most popular services. We remove doors and drawer fronts, degrease and sand them, apply a high-adhesion primer, and finish with two coats of hardwearing eggshell or satin for a factory-smooth result.
We recommend eggshell or satin finishes for kitchen walls because they resist moisture and grease and can be wiped clean. Dead-flat finishes look beautiful but are harder to maintain in a working kitchen environment.
For the smoothest factory finish we spray cabinet doors off-site or in a controlled dust-free area. Frames and fixed elements are hand-painted using high-density foam rollers and fine-tipped brushes to avoid brush marks.
A walls-only kitchen repaint takes one to two days. If cabinets are included, allow five to seven working days: one day for removal, two to three days for spraying and drying, and one to two days for reinstallation and touching up.
We keep disruption to a minimum. If only walls are being painted you can usually continue using the kitchen with minor adjustments. During cabinet painting we try to keep the sink and at least one worktop accessible throughout the project.
We use Zinsser BIN shellac-based primer or Dulux Trade Super Grip on melamine and laminate surfaces. These primers chemically bond to slick, non-porous substrates and provide a solid base for topcoats to adhere to permanently.
