Case Study

Garden Flat Light and Bright Refresh

A lower-ground-floor garden flat in South Kensington was redecorated throughout with a carefully chosen palette of light, warm tones designed to maximise the sense of brightness in rooms that receive limited natural light. The project included repainting the kitchen cabinetry and refreshing both bathrooms.

The Challenge

Lower-ground-floor flats present a particular challenge when it comes to colour selection, as colours that appear light and airy in well-lit showrooms can look flat and cold in rooms with restricted daylight. The existing kitchen cabinetry was in good structural condition but finished in a dated dark oak stain that made the room feel oppressive.

Our Approach

We conducted an extended colour consultation, bringing a wide range of sample pots and painting large test patches that the client could live with for several days before making final decisions. The kitchen cabinets were thoroughly degreased, sanded, primed with a high-adhesion bonding primer, and sprayed with two coats of a hard-wearing satin finish in a warm off-white. Bathroom surfaces were treated with specialist moisture-resistant paints. All walls throughout received two coats of high-quality matt emulsion, with woodwork finished in a complementary satin.

The Result

The flat has been utterly transformed. Rooms that previously felt dark and enclosed now feel warm, welcoming, and surprisingly spacious. The kitchen, with its freshly painted cabinetry, is unrecognisable from its former self and has become the heart of the home.
